Commitment to PAL

Find out more

Home means so much more than just four walls and a place to rest your head. Our commitment as your Real Estate Agent extends to every aspect that contributes to bringing you home, including our strong community engagement. The connections we foster, like those through the Police Activities League, play a vital role in youth development, making our neighborhood feel like a true home that continues beyond our front doors.

The Childers and Hess team believes that there is immense value in engaging with the community and supporting the individuals involved with the Police Activities League, as they play a crucial role in youth development.

The Police Activities League of SW Washington is a non-profit organization focused on youth development that collaborates with law enforcement agencies to enhance community engagement. By building positive relationships between youth and law enforcement, PAL aims to reduce juvenile crime rates in Southwest Washington by empowering young people to make responsible life choices. Through year-round programs and special events, the Police Activities League offers children opportunities that foster teamwork, encourage citizenship, and allow them to work alongside law enforcement officers and caring adult mentors.

PAL is dedicated to fulfilling our mission through the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strongly condemn discrimination in any form. Our families come from diverse backgrounds, and as we engage with our community, we do so with a growth mindset focused on youth development. While we may not have all the answers, we commit to learning and evolving alongside those we serve. Furthermore, we believe that a diverse board and staff, reflecting the demographics of the students in our programs, adds significant value to our community engagement efforts.

    National PAL History

PAL, or the Police Activities League, began in the 1910s when Captain John Sweeney of the New York City Police Department recognized the importance of community engagement in youth development. He initiated the Police Athletic League to provide inner-city youth with positive experiences related to law enforcement. By involving police officers in activities at ball fields, classrooms, and playgrounds, the program engaged children and helped to establish the police as friends and mentors in their lives.
